New Delhi: WhatsApp has stated that they are experimenting with a native CarPlay application for iPhone users to make messaging and calling more accessible while driving. This feature is currently being tested with iOS beta users and brings a proper application interface to CarPlay.

Rather than relying only on the Siri for voice-based interactions, the users can now view recent chats, choose contacts, and initiate messages or calls directly from their car’s display. This latest upgrade is expected to offer a more structured and controlled experience, while still keeping safety in mind by limiting full chat access.

Early support for the native CarPlay application. This version is likely to include light and dark modes and focus on essential messaging and calling features to avoid distracting drivers. WhatsApp on CarPlay has relied entirely on Siri. The users could listen to incoming messages and reply using the voice commands, but they could not access the chats or browse conversations.

The screen shows the recent conversations from the past few weeks, helping users to identify contacts they have interacted with quickly. The list typically covers the interactions from the past 20 to 25 days. The users cannot open the full conversations to read chat history, which has been reported to align with safety considerations while driving.

Rather than, they can select the contact to send the message or use the New Message option to reach someone not listed. Some reports also added that users can filter unread messages, which are marked with a blue dot for easier visibility.

The application has also been reported to include a call history tab where users can see incoming, outgoing, and missed calls, alongside details like contact names and timestamps. The users can return the calls directly from this screen.

Another tab also highlighted the favorite contacts, enabling quicker access to frequently contacted people. The users can start a message or call without searching through the full list. WhatsApp for CarPlay is now available only to beta testers using the TestFlight application.

The features are still under development, which actually means that they might have bugs or missing elements. The wider public release is expected once the application becomes stable.
