This gives you more control over who can actually contact you, and it matters more as usernames become the main way to start a conversation.

The reservation system also shows how valuable usernames are, especially for businesses and influencers who want the same handle on WhatsApp as they have on other Meta apps. Claiming a name early means you don’t lose out to someone else.

Don’t expect to see the username option right away, as WhatsApp is introducing it bit by bit. You’ll get a notification once it’s available in your country. They’re doing a slow rollout instead of flipping the switch for everyone at once.
