New Delhi: WhatsApp has started to expand its chat transfer feature, enabling users to move chats between Android and iOS when switching devices. Previously, the chat transfers were mostly limited to the same platform, but the latest upgrade now supports cross-platform transfers as well.
With these latest changes, users can now switch devices without losing their chats, including photos and videos, and without relying on third-party applications.
It will handle the chat transfer process directly, so the messages remain end-to-end encrypted throughout the transfer. If the users are transferring their WhatsApp chat, they can transfer these things: Account Information, Individual chats, Group Chats, Communities, WhatsApp Channels updates, Chat history, Call history, Media and Settings. Users can’t transfer the display name, Status Update, or media received over WhatsApp Channels.
WhatsApp has also shared a list of requirements that need to be met before starting the transfer process. The users need an Android device running Android 10 or above. Users require the same phone number on both the old and new devices. The latest WhatsApp version needs to be installed from the Google Play Store.
The latest WhatsApp version should be installed on an iPhone from the App Store with a stable Wi-Fi connection. Do not delete WhatsApp data from the user’s old iPhone until the transfer is complete.
Now, if the users transfer chat from Android to iPhone, they need Android OS Lollipop, SDK 21 or above, or Android 5 or above installed on their Android device. Users should have iOS 15.5 or above installed on their iPhone. The move to the iOS application is installed on the user’s Android device.
The latest WhatsApp iOS version is available on the App Store, and the latest WhatsApp Android version is available on the Google Play Store. User needs to use the same phone number as their old phone on their new device.
iPhone must be factory new or reset to factory settings to pair with the Move to iOS application and move data from the user’s Android device. Both of the users’ devices must be connected to a power source. Both of the users’ devices need to be connected to the same Wi-Fi network, or the users will need to connect their Android device to their iPhone’s hotspot.
