Hrithik Roshan advocates for actors to use professional stunt performers, deeming self-stunts "stupid" and "an ego trip." He emphasizes filmmaking as a collaborative art where specialists, including stunt professionals, contribute to creating cinematic illusions. Despite his strong stance, Roshan himself narrowly avoided serious injury during a stunt on 'Krrish' when a harness failed.
Hrithik Roshan has often been praised for his action-packed performances, but the actor once made it clear that he does not support the idea of actors performing dangerous stunts themselves.
In fact, Hrithik had openly expressed that actors should rely on professional stunt performers instead of attempting risky action scenes on their own.During an old interview with Lehren TV, the actor spoke in detail about the risks involved in such sequences and why he feels trained stunt professionals should handle them. Sharing his strong opinion, Hrithik said, “I don’t believe in doing your stunts yourself. I think it is stupid.
It should be banned.”Explaining his stance further, the actor emphasised that filmmaking is a collaborative effort where every department contributes to creating the illusion audiences see on screen. He said, “The reason I say that is that it should not be about an ego trip. You’re an actor, you’re creating a magical world, a fantasy world. And there are a lot of things that go into creating that fantasy.”Hrithik added that even aspects like makeup, dialogues, costumes, and hairstyles play an important role in making cinema believable.
According to him, every professional involved in filmmaking brings their own expertise to build that world piece by piece.
Importance of trained stunt performers
The actor further highlighted how stunt performers are specialists in their craft and deserve recognition for the dangerous work they do. He said, “People are specialised in doing certain specific jobs to help you create that entire world bit by bit in different pieces.” Adding to this thought, Hrithik remarked, “A stuntman’s job is to do stunts.
He comes into that space, does his job, and creates one more piece of that big picture, and then you carry on.
If you have an ego there, it’s like saying I will write my own dialogues. It’s silly.”
Hrithik’s own experience with action scenes
Interestingly, despite his strong views, Hrithik has been part of several action-heavy films. His superhero journey began with ‘Koi… Mil Gaya’, which later expanded into the popular franchise with ‘Krrish’ and ‘Krrish 3’. These films featured numerous high-octane sequences, most of which were performed with the help of professional stunt doubles. However, during the shoot of ‘Krrish’, Hrithik did attempt a stunt himself that nearly turned dangerous. The sequence required him to jump from one building to another using a harness. According to filmmaker Rakesh Roshan, who is also Hrithik’s father, the harness snapped mid-action, causing the actor to fall from a considerable height. Fortunately, Hrithik escaped the accident without any serious injuries.
