The veteran actor once revealed that his marriage to Babita was not sealed by his proposal but by his parents’ intervention.
Randhir’s Candid Confession
In a throwback revelation that takes fans back to the golden era of Hindi cinema, veteran actor Randhir Kapoor once admitted that he never actually proposed to his wife, Babita. The confession came during an appearance on 'The Kapil Sharma Show', where he candidly shared how his parents played a decisive role in making the union happen. “He (Raj Kapoor) knew but I was doing a lot of ‘time pass’,” Randhir recalled. “He asked, ‘Are you planning to get married?’ I said, ‘Yes, I will’. He said, ‘When? When she is old that’s when you will get married?’ I didn’t have to propose to her. My parents proposed to her.”
From Romance To Rift
Randhir and Babita’s love story began in the late 1960s, when Randhir met the doe-eyed actress on the sets of 'Sangam'. Sparks flew, and after years of dating, the two tied the knot in 1971 at the Kapoor residence. The couple was soon blessed with two daughters, Karisma Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor. However, the fairy tale began to crumble in the 1980s, when Randhir’s career took a downward turn.
Financial troubles and his growing dependence on alcohol strained the relationship. By 1987, Babita decided to separate, and the couple began living apart, though they never legally divorced.
Reunion after years apart
Despite the painful chapter of separation, Babita continued to raise their daughters with resilience, both of whom went on to become leading actresses in Bollywood. Meanwhile, Randhir openly acknowledged his shortcomings as an actor and husband during that time. After nearly two decades of living separately, the couple surprised many when they reconciled in 2007, choosing to spend their later years together.
