When Tovino Thomas named Ram Charan’s 'Rangasthalam' his favourite Telugu film: ‘I was in awe of it’

Malayalam cinema has steadily expanded its reach across India. Films from the industry now attract attention beyond language barriers. After the success of 'Manjummel Boys' in 2024, another Malayalam film began drawing interest in the Telugu states.

It was during this phase that Tovino Thomas openly spoke about his admiration for Telugu cinema and named a film that deeply impressed him while promoting 'Ajayante Randam Moshanam'.

What Tovino said about Ram Charan

During promotions in Hyderabad in 2024, Tovino interacted with the media and answered questions about his Telugu film preferences. When asked about his favourite actor and movie, he did not hesitate. He named Ram Charan as his favourite actor and 'Rangasthalam' as his most loved Telugu film.Sharing his thoughts, Tovino said, “I loved Sukumar’s work in Rangasthalam and wished I had been part of a project like that. Ram Charan has delivered one of the best performances in recent times, and I was in awe of it.” His words reflected genuine admiration rather than promotion-driven praise.

His growing respect for Telugu cinema

Tovino also spoke about the creative rise of Telugu films. He pointed out how storytelling and scale have evolved over the years.

According to him, the content coming from the Telugu industry feels ambitious yet rooted at the same time. He noted that every new release seems to push boundaries. His comments resonated with many, especially as Malayalam actors increasingly gain appreciation among Telugu audiences.

On the work front

Tovino Thomas has a packed 2026 slate. Leading the list is the pan-Indian action drama Pallichattambi, scheduled to release on April 9, 2026. He will then appear in 'Toxic', 'Khalifa', and 'Forensic 2'. Beyond these, he is also part of 'Athiradi', 'Lokah Chapter 2', and an untitled project with Muhsin Parari.On the Telugu front, Ram Charan is gearing up for his next major release, 'Peddi', earlier referred to as RC16. Directed by Buchi Babu Sana, the film presents Ram Charan in a sports-action avatar and also stars Janhvi Kapoor in a key role.
