US President Donald Trump instructed his envoy to notify Qatar of an impending Israeli strike, the White House said on Tuesday, adding that Trump personally spoke with the leaders of both Israel and Qatar following the attack, reported AFP.
However, Qatari officials strongly deny receiving any advance warning. “Statements circulating about Qatar being informed of the attack in advance are false. The call received from an American official came as explosions sounded from the Israeli attack in Doha," Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesman Majed Al-Ansari posted on X.
According to the White House, US Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff had been directed to alert Qatari officials ahead of the Israeli operation, which targeted senior Hamas members in Doha.
Following the strike, the White House sought to reassure Qatari leadership, with a spokesperson stating that President Trump told the Emir that “the US feels badly about the location of the attack" and promised such an incident “will not happen again on their soil."
