For those who are unaware, Malle is the daughter of actress Candice Bergen and late auteur director Louis Malle.

She studied comparative literature and writing at Brown University. However, after graduating, she was confused about her career path and eventually took up an internship at the New York Observer, where she covered real estate. She moved on to freelance writing later, contributing to The New York Times Style section and Vogue. Once, she even created Dogue, a canine send-up of the magazine she had published twice. It was in 2011, that Malle joined Vogue as a full-time social editor, a role that allowed her to mingle with the who's and whos of the fashion world while attending events and parties, regularly. She expanded her expertise to cover best-dressed lists, parties, hosted podcasts and became an editor for Vogue. She recalled her first interview with Vogue in 2011, where she wore black tights, something Wintour disliked along with boots and a 'boring' dress. She also admitted that she wasn't a 'fashion girl' at the time but later grew into the role.In August, reports circulated that she was in the final stages of an interview with top Conde Nast executives including CEO Roger Lynch and Anna Wintour herself.
