United States’ Ethan Quinn first grabbed attention when he took part in his first-ever Grand Slam, the 2025 French Open. Coming through the qualifiers, he overpowered Grigor Dimitrov in the opening round, with the latter handing him a walkover in the third set.
Quinn then beat Alexander Shevchenko in the second round, only to lose to Tallon Griekspoor in the third. He was eliminated in the second round of Wimbledon by Kamil Majchrzak and in the first round of the US Open by Jerome Kym.
At the ongoing Australian Open, Quinn eliminated Griekspoor in the first round, beat Hubert Hurkacz in the second round and will face 16th seed Jakub Mensik on Saturday, January 24.
Quinn was born in Fresno, California, to parents who were both former tennis players and attended San Joaquin Memorial High School in his hometown.
Quinn enrolled early at the University of Georgia in January 2022 and was rated the country’s top tennis recruit that year. He went on to win the 2023 NCAA Singles Championship for the Georgia Bulldogs in May 2023.
Quinn, alongside partner Nicholas Godsick, won the doubles title at the 2022 USTA Boys 18s National Championship, earning them a wildcard entry into the main draw of the 2022 US Open.
They clinched the final with a 6-4, 6-0 win against top seeds Sebastian Gorzny and Alex Michelsen, who had won the 2022 Wimbledon Junior doubles title. In the singles event at the same tournament, Quinn also reached the final but fell to Learner Tien in four sets.
By reaching the final, Quinn earned a wildcard into the US Open singles qualifying. In the first round at Flushing Meadows, he beat higher-ranked Ernesto Escobedo 5-7, 6-4, 6-4.
In the US Open doubles main draw, Quinn and Godsick won their first-round match against Nikoloz Basilashvili and Hans Hach Verdugo, before falling in the second round to the sixth-seeded Croatian duo Nikola Mektic and Mate Pavic.
