Palani first joined Tesla’s finance team around early 2009, just after the company had narrowly survived what he described as a brush with collapse around Christmas 2008.He recalled that period under “Tesla Deathwatch,” saying the company “barely survived Christmas of 2008” and that “I slept under my desk in San Carlos, CA at least once, and I wasn’t the only one,” telling how precarious Tesla’s situation was at the time.
Before rising to the vice‑president level, he held several finance and operations roles, including Senior Financial Analyst, Manufacturing Project Manager, Senior Finance Manager, Director, and Senior Director, steadily gaining influence as Tesla moved from startup to global automaker.
