A 22-year-old man from Utah has been arrested in connection with the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Authorities have identified the suspect as Tyler Robinson.According to the law enforcement official, the father of Robinson recognised his son from publicly released photos. He urged his son to surrender and enlisted the help of a youth pastor. The pastor then contacted the US Marshals, who subsequently apprehended the suspect.President Donald Trump confirmed the arrest during a live Fox News interview on Friday, declaring, “With a high degree of certainty, we have him.”
He said the suspect was recognised by someone close to him and subsequently turned in to authorities. Trump added, “He wanted to help young people, and he didn’t deserve this. He was really a good person.”Kirk, co-founder of Turning Point USA, was fatally shot on Wednesday while addressing a crowd at Utah Valley University. Witnesses said the gunman fired a single shot from a rooftop before fleeing into nearby woods.
Investigators later recovered a bolt-action rifle near the scene.The attack, captured on video and widely shared online, showed Kirk collapsing as panicked spectators fled. Federal and state officials said more than 7,000 tips were received before Robinson was taken into custody. A news conference on the case is expected later today in Utah.
