Who was Lucky Oberoi: AAP leader, financier and builder gunned down outside Jalandhar Gurdwara

JALANDHAR: Aam Aadmi Party local leader Lucky Oberoi was shot dead by unidentified assailants outside a gurdwara in Jalandhar’s Model Town on Friday morning, police said. The incident occurred around 7.55am near Gurdwara Singh Sabha when Oberoi was sitting in his Thar vehicle after coming out of the premises.

At least two attackers, who arrived on a scooter, fired multiple rounds at him from close range before fleeing the spot. Oberoi was rushed in a critical condition to a private hospital in the city, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Police said Oberoi was a local AAP functionary and was considered close to Rajwinder Thiara, the party’s in-charge for the Jalandhar Cantt constituency. Oberoi worked as a financier and was also involved in the property business.

He was a resident of Guru Teg Bahadur Nagar. His wife, Simarjot Kaur, had contested the municipal corporation elections last year on an AAP ticket. Senior police officers said teams have been formed to identify the attackers and establish the motive behind the killing. Further investigation is underway.
