Tension gripped the Marine Drive Police Station in Mumbai on Tuesday after NCP MLAs Rohit Pawar and Amol Mitkari reached the station and demanded immediate action in connection with the death of former Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar.

The two leaders, along with MLA Sandeep Kshirsagar, questioned why no FIR had been registered despite what they claimed was clear evidence pointing to negligence. Videos from inside the police station surfaced, showing heated arguments between the MLAs and police officials. The atmosphere remained tense for over an hour.

The MLAs demanded that a criminal case be immediately registered against the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and VSR Company. They alleged that the DGCA report had already flagged lapses on the part of VSR Company and highlighted serious negligence in maintenance.

“Such a senior leader loses his life in an accident. We have evidence suggesting foul play. Why has the FIR not been filed yet?" Rohit Pawar asked, accusing the police of delaying action. He further alleged that there may be pressure to shield the aviation company.

Mitkari also raised sharp questions over the pace of the investigation. He said the police were buying time in a matter involving the death of a top state leader. Both MLAs insisted that a case of culpable homicide be registered against officials of both the DGCA and VSR Company.

As the situation escalated, Deputy Commissioner of Police Pravin Mundhe arrived at the station to take stock of the situation. Supporters who had gathered outside the police station were asked to leave, and only Rohit Pawar, Amol Mitkari, Sandeep Kshirsagar and their lawyers were allowed inside the police cabin for discussions.

Police officials maintained that any action would be taken strictly within the framework of the law. They assured the leaders that due process would be followed before registering any offence. However, the confrontation underlined the growing political tension around the case.
