Why was 'Goodachari' delayed? Adivi Sesh reveals he deleted 22 minutes from the spy action thriller - Deets inside

Actor Adivi Sesh not only leads the spy action drama 'Goodachari' but is also the writer of the film. The film's release in 2018 brought spy thrillers back into the Telugu mainstream. The actor recently opened up about how he deleted 22 minutes from the film after surprising feedback from his assistant. While speaking with Pinkvilla, the 'Major' actor shared that 'Goodachari' was originally planned to hit the screens in May 2018. But after reviewing the rough cut, he and his team realized changes were needed."While we were editing the film, my assistant Prasad came in. He is my guy, makes coffee, takes care of me, and makes sure I am okay. I tell him to watch the film," Sesh recalled. What happened next completely shifted his perspective on the project.

The assistant's honest feedback

After watching the film, Prasad pointed out something that Sesh hadn't considered. He shared that the film looks okay, but asked if the main character wants to be like his father, then why is he doing comedy?Adivi Sesh admitted that the question, though simple, was eye-opening. At that point, he had been feeling proud of the first half of the film, convinced that he was bringing spy movies back to South Indian cinema. But Prasad's comment made him rethink the tone of his character.

Cutting 22 minutes from the film

Sesh revealed that after thinking about the feedback, he decided to remove 22 minutes of footage. "I felt like the movie was gone," he said, recalling how difficult the decision was. However, he also shared that he took the team's opinion before finalizing the cut. To his surprise, when he approached the director, he learned that the same suggestion had already been made earlier but wasn't acted upon.To maintain continuity, they decided to add a new five-minute connecting scene, which took nearly a month to write. This additional work, along with the re-editing, delayed the film's release to August 3, 2018.On the current work front, Adivi Sesh is working on his next film 'Dacoit' starring Mrunal Thakur and Anurag Kashyap, which will be released on December 25, 2025.
