A condolence meeting at the YSR Congress Party’s (YSRCP) headquarters on Wednesday took a dramatic political turn after the grieving family of Cheeli Singaiah, the YSRCP supporter who allegedly died under the vehicle of party president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy during his visit to Rentapalla, raised allegations of foul play.

Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy, who met Singaiah’s wife Lourdu Mary and other family members at the party office at Tadepalli, extended his condolences and assured them of continued party support. A sum of ₹10 lakh was handed over as immediate financial assistance.

The meeting was attended by senior leaders Lella Appireddy and Prathipadu coordinator Balasani Kiran Kumar.

However, in an emotional address to the media after the meeting, Ms. Lourdu Mary voiced suspicion about her husband’s death.

“My husband suffered minor injuries. He was conscious, talking, and revealed our village details. How can he die?” she questioned.

She alleged that the offers to shift Singaiah in a private vehicle were ignored and the wait for an ambulance continued, during which time “something suspicious” might have taken place. “Foul play might have happened in the ambulance,” she said, hinting at a possible cover-up.

Ms. Lourdu Mary also alleged that a group claiming to represent TDP leader and HRD Minister N. Lokesh visited her home and mounted pressure on the family to sign certain documents, and issued threats when they refused. “Even the police have attempted to coerce us into signing statements using accident footage,” she alleged.

“Jagan anna has assured us. We trust him,” she said, while demanding a transparent and independent investigation into the death.

The allegations cast a shadow over the tragedy, potentially escalating it into a political flashpoint between the YSRCP and ruling alliance leaders.
