Bareilly: Suspended Bareilly city magistrate Alankar Agnihotri, 40, who had tendered his resignation over “University Grants Commission’s new anti-discrimination rules”, said he would approach the high court if his resignation was not accepted.
He stated that he is no longer part of the govt system and intends to work independently for society. The 2019-batch PCS officer made the statements after appearing before the Bareilly divisional commissioner’s office to officially record his statement regarding his ongoing resignation dispute.Accompanied by a large crowd of supporters, Agnihotri revealed that he has floated a new political party named “Ram”.
Claiming that his outfit already commands an 18% to 19% vote bank, he announced plans to field candidates on all seats in the upcoming 2027 Uttar Pradesh assembly elections.Agnihotri, considered a strong contender for promotion to the IAS cadre, resigned on Jan 26. He linked his exit to the new UGC rules, which he claims could be misused against general-category students. He also cited a recent incident involving Shankaracharya Swami Avimukteshwaranand as a key trigger.
“The insult to the Shankaracharya deeply shook me. That incident compelled me to act,” Agnihotri said, adding that he considers himself a disciple of the seer and consulted him personally before stepping down.Raised in Kanpur by his mother following his father’s death when he was 10, Agnihotri holds a BTech degree from IIT (BHU), Varanasi. Before clearing the PCS examination on his first attempt in 2019, he worked in the private sector for nearly 11 years, including a professional stint in the United States.
