World No. 1 Jannik Sinner plans to get an MRI to further assess his injury after a potentially damaging fall early in his fourth-round match at Wimbledon against Grigor Dimitrov. Despite the fall, Sinner progressed to the fourth round after Dimitrov retired due to injury while leading 6-3, 7-5, 2-2.

During the first game of the fourth-round match, Sinner looked poised for an unexpected defeat after he jarred his elbow during a seemingly harmless slide to the ground. He received a medical timeout for elbow treatment. Having recently parted ways with his physiotherapist and trainer, he will work with the ATP Tour’s physios on his elbow.

“It was an unfortunate fall. I reviewed the videos, and it didn’t appear severe, but I felt it significantly, especially when serving and playing forehand. We’ll check it tomorrow with an MRI to see if there’s anything serious, and then we’ll adjust accordingly," Sinner explained in his post-match press conference.

Dimitrov was leading by two sets when he collapsed to the ground, clutching the pectoral muscle under his right arm. He had just held serve for 2-2, but it was evident early in that game that he was in discomfort, and by the end, he was nearly in tears from the pain.

Barely able to lift his serving arm, Dimitrov was forced to retire injured, marking the fifth consecutive Grand Slam where he has withdrawn mid-match.

Sinner, who advances to the quarter-finals to face big-serving American Ben Shelton, praised Dimitrov’s performance in building a 6-3, 7-5, 2-2 lead on Centre Court.

“He served incredibly well, very precise and fast, and adapted his game excellently. It was breezy, and he used the wind effectively. He prepared and executed the match very well, playing great tennis… He’s showing his potential. It’s very unfortunate, as I said on court. I wish him a speedy recovery," said Sinner.
