Wimbledon 2025: Yuki Bhambri Keeps Indian Hopes Alive; Sriram Balaji, Bollipali Crash Out

Bhambri advanced to the third round of Men's Doubles at Wimbledon with Galloway. Meanwhile, Sriram Balaji, Bollipalli, Boanna, and Tyagi faced defeats.

India experienced a day of mixed emotions at Wimbledon on Saturday, with Yuki Bhambri providing a boost by reaching the third round of the men’s doubles, while compatriots N. Sriram Balaji and Rithvik Bollipalli exited after hard-fought second-round defeats.

Yuki Bhambri, partnering with American Robert Galloway, delivered a gritty performance to secure a straight-sets victory over the pairing of Portugal’s Nuno Borges and American Marcos Giron. The Indo-American duo prevailed 6–3, 7–6 in a tightly contested match to book their place in the third round.

Bhambri and Galloway showed composure and resilience, especially in the second set tiebreak, holding their nerve to close out the match and continue their impressive run at the All England Club.

Balaji-Reyes-Varela Fall to Fourth Seeds

Meanwhile, Sriram Balaji and his Mexican partner Miguel Reyes-Varela faced a formidable test in the form of fourth seeds Marcel Granollers of Spain and Argentina’s Horacio Zeballos. Despite a spirited performance, the unseeded pair were beaten 4–6, 4–6 in a match lasting one hour and 20 minutes.

Balaji and Reyes-Varela put up a strong fight, pushing their more experienced opponents in several close games, but ultimately couldn’t convert opportunities into a breakthrough.

Bollipalli-Barrientos Push British Duo to the Limit

Later in the day, Rithvik Bollipalli and Colombian partner Nicolas Barrientos took on the sixth-seeded all-British pair of Joe Salisbury and Neal Skupski. The match proved to be a nail-biter, particularly in the second set, but the Indian-Colombian pair fell short, losing 4–6, 6–7 (9) in one hour and 47 minutes.

The second set tiebreak saw Bollipalli and Barrientos hold set points, but the experienced British team held firm to secure victory.

Bopanna Out, Tyagi Crashes

Earlier in the tournament, India’s senior-most doubles player, Rohan Bopanna, suffered a surprise first-round exit, bringing an early end to his campaign at the grass-court major.

In the junior competition, India’s Krish Tyagi faced a tough opponent in the boys’ singles draw. He was defeated 3–6, 3–6 by Jan Kumstat of the Czech Republic in the opening round, ending his run at the tournament.
