Senior Congress leader and Chandigarh MP Manish Tewari has been left out of all key organisational and election-related roles in the party’s Punjab revamp, a move widely seen as a clear indication of the leadership’s evolving power structure ahead of the 2027 assembly elections.

In a major organisational reshuffle announced on Wednesday, the Congress retained Amarinder Singh Raja Warring as Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president and Partap Singh Bajwa as Leader of the Opposition, signalling continuity at the top. Former chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi was appointed chairman of the campaign committee, while the party also named new working presidents and revamped several election-related committees.

Conspicuously absent from the list was Tewari, one of the Congress’ most prominent national faces from Punjab and a three-time Lok Sabha MP.

Cryptic Post Fuels Speculation

Soon after the announcements, Tewari posted a cryptic message on social media.

“Whatever will be, will be," he wrote, before adding another post lamenting that he wished there were “an antidote for insecurities—of individuals and institutions alike," remarks widely interpreted as a reaction to his exclusion from the new organisational set-up.

While Tewari did not directly mention the Congress leadership or the reshuffle, the timing of the posts fuelled speculation about his dissatisfaction.
