Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee president Y.S. Sharmila on Thursday (June 25, 2026) alleged that the progress report released on the power sector by the State government was a collection of half-truths, falsehoods and misleading claims.

“Under the guise of ‘True-Up’ charges, the government has imposed a massive financial burden on consumers. Ordinary people have been subjected to repeated power tariff shocks, with soaring electricity bills putting immense pressure on households,” she posted on X.

The State Congress chief wondered if imposing an additional burden of ₹15,654 crore through two rounds of True-Up charges in just two years could be called relief, and if pushing people into financial distress under the name of “adjustments” could be described as putting the power sector back on track.

“Taking away huge sums with one hand and then offering a token reduction with the other is nothing short of deception,” she said, adding that if the coalition government was genuinely committed to providing relief on electricity tariffs, it should immediately withdraw the ongoing True-Up burden of more than ₹15,000 crore. The additional amounts collected from consumers over the last two years in the name of True-Up charges should be refunded through adjustments in future electricity bills, she demanded.
