Barcelona FC wunderkind Lamine Yamal extended his contract with the Catalan club up until 2031 as he put pen to paper on Wednesday. The teenager will also don the iconic No.10 jersey, formerly used by some legendary names including Lionel Messi and Ronaldinho.

Yamal paid a special tribute to his grandmother, who has been a pillar of support to the brightest young prospect in football as he inked the deal in her presence.

“This event had been postponed because of my grandmother, who was in Morocco, and without her, I wouldn’t have been able to do something as special as this for me," the Euro winner said.

“I think she herself doesn’t know what all this means. But she sees that I’m happy, and so she’s happy too," he added.

“Therefore, I can only thank her for everything she has done for me, and for what she continues to do, and I’ll try to repay her little by little, even though I’ll never be able to fully repay her," the La Liga 2024/25 emerging player of the year added.

Spanish star Yamal entered the season riding high after a successful Euro campaign, where he led La Roja to the UEFA title. He maintained his impressive form with standout performances for the Catalan club throughout the season.

Yamal scored 9 goals and provided 15 assists in Hansi Flick’s debut campaign, further enriching the Blaugrana’s trophy collection. The teenager also netted five goals and set up four more in the UCL, before the Spanish giants were dramatically eliminated by Inter Milan.

Yamal shone brightly in Spain’s 5-4 victory over France in the semifinal of the UEFA Nations League on Thursday. The 17-year-old’s market value continues to soar with each game he plays.

Barcelona dethroned arch-rivals Real Madrid in La Liga, amassing 88 points from 38 matches, with 28 wins, four draws, and only six losses. Real Madrid trailed by four points, finishing second, while Atletico Madrid secured third place with 76 points.
