Patna: A 22-year-old female constable was found hanging in a washroom on the Kishanpur block office premises in Supaul district on Saturday night. The deceased was identified as Ritu Kumari, daughter of Jitendra Prasad Gupta and a resident of Patkhouli village under Sikarhatta police station area of Bhojpur district.Police said the washroom where she was found hanging was not in use and contained election-related materials. Ritu, who joined the police force in 2025 and was the third of four siblings, was posted in Muzaffarpur district. She had reached Supaul on March 19 along with other women police personnel to maintain law and order during the Eid and Ram Navami festivals.According to her colleagues, Ritu went into the washroom, saying she was going to take a bath.
When she did not return for long, they checked on her and saw that she was hanging from a noose. They informed Kishanpur SHO Gyan Ranjan Kumar, following which the body was sent to Sadar Hospital, where doctors declared her brought dead. Ritu had earlier also attempted suicide during her training at Bhimnagar but was saved after another constable noticed her in time.On receiving information, Kosi range DIG Ashish Kumar, Supaul SP Sarath R S, DSP Shivendra Kumar and other senior officials reached the spot. “The body was handed over to family members after the post-mortem. Evidence was collected from the spot. A suicide note has been recovered from the pocket of the deceased, which mentions personal reasons and depression behind the extreme step,” the SHO said.According to police, around 90 women constables had been deployed for festival duty and they are staying at the Sabha Bhawan on the block office premises.
