Gorakhpur: A 28-year-old woman died hours after giving birth to a baby boy through a C-section at a Community Health Centre (CHC) in Chauri Chaura on Sunday, sparking a six-hour protest by her family members, who alleged medical negligence and a lack of timely treatment.The deceased, Neelam Nishad, a resident of Belwa Dubauli village in Deoria, was admitted to the CHC on Saturday after experiencing labour pain. She later delivered a boy following a C-section.According to her husband, Dev Nishad, and brother, Ritesh, Neelam’s condition deteriorated after the surgery. They alleged that doctors were unavailable at the hospital during the night and that delays in treatment contributed to her death.Enraged by the incident, family members placed the body outside the CHC and staged a protest, demanding action against the medical staff. The demonstration continued for nearly six hours and prompted senior police officials, including the circle officer, to reach the spot.Police later detained a nurse who had been on duty during the night for questioning. The agitation ended around 11 am after officials assured the family of a fair investigation, following which the body was sent for postmortem examination.CHC superintendent Sarvjeet Prasad claimed that the woman died of cardiac arrest, rejecting allegations of medical negligence.
