Woman ‘drugs’ family with sedative-laced mutton, elopes with lover
Amroha: A 26-year-old married woman allegedly mixed sedatives into mutton served to her family before fleeing with her married lover from a village in the Hasanpur area of Amroha district on Monday night, police said.As per the relatives, the woman had been living at her parents’ house for the past two months and was in a relationship with a married man from the same village. Around six weeks ago, the two had allegedly tried to elope but were brought back after a village panchayat intervened.The family cooked mutton after offering a goat as a religious sacrifice. Police suspect the woman laced the food with sleeping pills, causing six family members to lose consciousness.The incident came to light early Tuesday when her nephew returned from work and found the family unresponsive. He alerted relatives, who informed the police.The six family members were taken to the Hasanpur Community Health Centre and later referred to a higher medical facility for treatment. Police said the woman also left with her two-year-old daughter and her lover.Hasanpur CO Pankaj Tyagi said police have collected food samples for forensic tests and launched an investigation. Further legal action will be taken based on the forensic findings and the outcome of the probe.
