Berhampur: A 21-year-old woman student of BCA second year of a private engineering college was found dead under mysterious circumstances in her hostel on Saturday.Found hanging from the ceiling fan of her neighbouring vacant room in the hostel, she was immediately rushed to MKCG Medical College and Hospital, where doctors declared her dead.The deceased hailed from a village in Buguda and stayed at the hostel of the engineering college. Her younger sister studies in the same college and stays in the hostel. The deceased, along with some other hostel inmates, were reading in a room at the hostel late on Friday night.On Saturday morning, they found the deceased missing from the room. A search later, she was found hanging from the ceiling fan of her neighbouring room.
They intimated the college authorities and rushed her to MKCG Medical College and Hospital here, where doctors declared her dead.Though the exact cause of her suicide was not known immediately, her family members attributed it to “mental torture” by one of her boyfriends. The deceased’s uncle lodged a police complaint in this regard.“We came to know she might be committed hanging due to the alleged mental torture by one of her boyfriends.
They are not known to her boyfriend,” said her uncle, Mangulu Pradhan.Subhranshu Parida, sub-divisional police officer (SDPO), Berhampur Sadar, said they have registered a case in Golanthara police station in this regard and launched an investigation. The post-mortem of the body was conducted in the medical college. The exact cause of her suicide could be known only after a thorough investigation. The inquiry will be held from all possible angles, including the alleged love affair, said police.
