Woman held from Keonjhar for duping job aspirants

Police arrested Sureswari Sagarika Jena for allegedly duping job aspirants of crores of rupees

Keonjhar/Bhubaneswar: A 45-year-old woman was arrested from Keonjhar on Saturday for allegedly duping several job aspirants, police said. The accused was identified as Sureswari Sagarika Jena of Jalkalang under Keonjhar district’s Hatadihi block.To avoid arrest, she had applied for anticipatory bail. But police from Khandagiri in Bhubaneswar arrested her after putting her under surveillance.“A team from Khandagiri police went to Keonjhar following a tip-off and nabbed her as she was involved in duping a number of job aspirants by taking lakhs of rupees from them. Nandipada police in Keonjhar assisted in the operation,” said Bhubaneswar DCP Jagmohan Meena.Sources said Khandagiri police reached Nandipada in the morning and, with the help of local police, arrested Jena from her house. Later, police brought her to Bhubaneswar.“The woman was arrested in a fraud case involving Rs 22 lakh,” said IIC of Nandipada police station, Dharmendra Shanti. A case was earlier registered at Khandagiri police station against her based on a complaint.Police said that, under the guise of social activities, she used to cheat people. Most people in Keonjhar knew her as a social worker who was president of an organisation.“After her arrest, locals were alerted, especially those who were connected to her,” a police officer said, adding that further investigation is on to find out if there are more victims.
