Vijayawada: A family argument in Byrluti village of Nandyal district turned violent when a man allegedly tried to shoot his wife with an arrow. However, his mother-in-law stepped in to protect her daughter and was seriously injured after the arrow hit her instead.According to police, the accused, Pulicherla Venkateshwarlu, returned home in an intoxicated state and picked a quarrel with his family members. Investigators said the family was already reeling from the recent death of the couple’s two-month-old son due to illness, leaving them emotionally distressed.During the heated argument, Venkateshwarlu allegedly picked up a bow and arrow and attempted to shoot his wife.

At that moment, his mother-in-law, Gulla Kotamma, rushed to protect her daughter. The arrow struck Kotamma in the leg, leaving her seriously injured.Hearing the commotion, family members and villagers rushed to the house and immediately shifted Kotamma to a nearby hospital. As her condition was found to be serious, doctors referred her to the govt General Hospital in Kurnool, where she is currently undergoing treatment under medical supervision.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the village, with residents expressing disbelief over the rare and brutal nature of the attack. Police reached the spot soon after receiving information and secured the scene before recording statements from family members and eyewitnesses.A case has been registered against Venkateshwarlu, and investigators are probing the circumstances that led to the violent confrontation.
