Woman’s body found in garbage collection vehicle at Kalyan dumping ground

Kalyan: The decomposed body of an unidentified woman, aged around 40, was found inside a garbage collection vehicle at Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation’s (KDMC) dumping ground in Khambalpada on Tuesday evening.Police suspect that the deceased was a ragpicker who lived near the dumping ground and was missing for the past several days.The post-mortem examination report showed no sign of foul play, but the exact cause is yet to be determined.“She was possibly a ragpicker who may have succumbed to some heat-related illness. We are awaiting further medical findings before drawing any conclusion,” said police inspector Pankaj Bhalerao.The body was found by sanitation workers while unloading garbage from the vehicle at the dumping site. They alerted Tilaknagar police, following which senior officers, including assistant commissioner of police Suhas Hemade, reached the spot. Police sent the body to Shastrinagar Hospital for an autopsy.Police said the woman has not yet been identified and no missing person’s complaint matching her description has been registered at nearby police stations. Further investigation is underway.
