KOTTAYAM: A woman has been shifted to Kottayam Medical College for Ebola testing following her return from South Sudan. Health officials stated that the woman visited a private hospital in Pala on Wednesday after developing a fever.Due to her recent travel history, the hospital alerted the health department, which subsequently transferred her to the isolation ward at Kottayam Medical College.Blood samples have been collected and sent to a laboratory to determine if she is infected with the Ebola virus, news agency PTI reported.State health minister K Muraleedharan noted that the woman, who traveled alone from South Sudan via Uganda, initially sought treatment at a private hospital after experiencing symptoms including vomiting.“Due to her symptoms, she was shifted to the isolation ward at Kottayam Medical College. We are yet to receive the test results,” he stated.Muraleedharan added that the superintendent of the medical college reported that preliminary examinations do not indicate anything alarming at this stage.The health department had previously issued an alert to hospitals across Kerala to closely monitor travelers arriving from African nations, and officials have confirmed that all necessary preparations, including the procurement of PPE kits, have been made.(With agency inputs)
