Woman ties drunk husband to pole, seals his mouth with tape during liquor shop protest in Madhya Pradesh

BHOPAL: A woman protesting against a liquor shop in Madhya Pradesh’s Balaghat district tied her drunk husband to an electricity pole and taped his mouth shut after he turned up at the protest site in an inebriated state and allegedly disrupted the agitation. The incident took place in Budhi, where women have been staging a sit-in since April 13, demanding that the liquor shop be shifted out of a residential area. A video of the episode surfaced on Tuesday and has gone viral on social media.According to police and protesters, the man allegedly abused women demonstrators, created a ruckus and argued that the liquor shop should not be removed. His wife, who has been part of the agitation and was already upset over his alleged drinking habit, lost her temper and tied him to a nearby electricity pole, sealing his mouth with tape.Police later reached the spot and freed the man.Protester Manjita Sonwane said women had continued the agitation through the peak summer and would not call it off during the monsoon. “We will continue our protest until the administration shifts the liquor shop,” she said. The protest has drawn support from local public representatives, including the area’s MP, MLA and municipal representatives. However, residents say repeated assurances to relocate the shop have not translated into action.
