Recently, on International Women’s Day, Raveena Tandon celebrated the special occasion with women in Jaipur. The Bollywood actress attended Shakti-Vandan, a festival that also celebrated the birth anniversary of Panna Dhai.

In a conversation with Dr Somya Gurjar, former Mayor, Jaipur Nagar Nigam (Greater), Raveena, who flaunted a Rajasthani safa and looked stunning in a green outfit, talked at length about women empowerment, gender equality, feminism, her personal struggles, career and more.

‘Never had to step back just because I am a woman’ Raveena, who won over the audience when she started the interaction saying “Khamma Ghani Jaipur” with folded hands, shared, “I consider myself lucky to be born in a family where there was no discrimination between my brother and me.

A girl can grow only when she is provided equal rights, equal opportunities and gets recognition for her hard work. Whatever I achieved in my career as a professional is because I never had to step back just because I am a woman.

‘We need to teach our boys to respect girls’Talking about safety issues, freedom and how to ensure equality, Raveena shared, “Teaching boys to respect the opposite gender should start from home itself.

We need to teach our boys to be sensitive and respectful towards girl classmates/colleagues in school, college, and office. We need to consistently reinforce these values in kids right from early childhood.” ‘Many big companies are being led by women CEOs’ Winning hearts with her sense of humour and witty remarks, Raveena tried her best to involve the female audience. She shared fitness tips with them and suggested they take out some me time to focus on their physical, mental and spiritual health.

Asked about whether there were enough women in leadership positions globally across various fields, Raveena shared, “The scenario was very different 15 years ago but now, things are changing fast and moving in a very positive direction.

Many big companies are being led by women CEOs. In fact, not just Indian companies, but even international companies are being led by women. Even in Bollywood, there are women directors who are doing a commendable job and highlighting women’s issues through their films.”
