Women raise road, water and mobile network issues at Poinguinim Mahila gram sabha

Canacona: Nearly 200 women attended a special Mahila gram sabha held on Sunday at the Poinguinim gram panchayat hall to mark International Women’s Day. Several women raised long-pending issues, particularly the need to asphalt village roads on priority.A group of women from Chiplem highlighted the lack of mobile connectivity in their area and said a mobile tower is essential to resolve the problem. The panchayat authorities assured them that the necessary procedures would be initiated.Water scarcity affecting daily household activities was also widely discussed during the meeting.Women from Marlim–Tirval demanded that their kucha road be hot-mixed at the earliest.

Some participants also raised the need for a walking track, pointing out that work at the Potkem ground is progressing at a snail’s pace.Other concerns included cattle damaging plantations and fields, with women urging that compensation be provided without much difficulty.Canacona MLA and sports minister Ramesh Tawadkar said that women’s labour keeps households functioning, communities stable, and the nation’s workforce ready to participate in the formal economy.He added that true empowerment involves not only enabling women to succeed within existing systems but also questioning structures that overlook essential forms of work.
