A song from the film ‘KD: The Devil’ starring Dhruva Sarja has invited the wrath of women’s rights activists, who have urged the State Government to immediately ban the song in order to safeguard the dignity of women.

Women’s rights activists and women’s organisations like All India Mahila Sanskriti Sanghatan (AIMSS) have come out strongly against the “vulgar” lyrics in the song, which they contend seeks to “promote a derogatory perception of women”.

Advocate M.N. Sumana, farmers’ activist Sunanda Jayaram, women’s rights activists Rekhamba, Lynette Vani Periyodi, Nasreen Mithai, and other members of the coordination committee of the Karnataka State Anti-Women Atrocities Federation have expressed the view that the song beginning with the line ‘Sarse Sarse Ninna Seraga Sarse’ encourages people to look at women in a demeaning manner.

“Due to the negligence and irresponsibility of the censor board, such songs are being released unchecked,” said a statement released by the women’s activists, who said that such shameful content cannot be accepted under any circumstances.

Meanwhile, the Mysuru district committee of AIMSS said the song has “very vulgar lyrics” and portrays women merely as “an object of pleasure, a commodity for sale”.

AIMSS Mysuru district committee, which has condemned the callousness of the Censor Board in clearing the song for release, said the release of the song at a time when crimes against women and children were increasing “surely doesn’t bode well”, said a press statement from Asiya, Secretary of Mysuru district committee of AIMSS.

Meanwhile, AIDYO’s Mysuru District Committee too has demanded an immediate ban on the “vulgar and double-meaning song” in the film ‘KD: The Devil’ directed by Prem.

“The AIDYO State Committee demands that all forms of broadcast of such obscene and double-meaning songs be immediately banned and strict action be taken against those responsible,” said a statement here by AIDSO’s Mysuru district committee’s Secretary Suma.

“AIDYO strongly condemns director Prem and the film team for creating such a low-quality song, as well as the negligence of the censor board and governments that have failed to curb such distortions,” the statement said.
