Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday (May 14, 2026) announced several austerity measures for government officials and the general public.
Ms. Gupta said that the government staff can work from home two days every week. She also said an advisory will be issued to private companies to implement work from home for two days a week. “For all big companies, we’ll request them personally,” the Delhi Chief Minister added.
“Every Monday, will be ‘Metro Day’. We all Ministers and senior officers, wherever possible, will use the metro to come to the office and go,” Ms. Gupta said.
Ms. Gupta also said “We have segregated the office timing so that traffic will be less.” For the Delhi government the official timings have been changed to 10.30 a.m. to 7 p.m.
“We have also directed the Municipal Corporation Delhi to function from 8.30 a.m. to 5 p.m.,” the Delhi CM said.
“We will try that 50% of meetings should be online. Wherever possible we will do video conferencing,” Ms. Gupta said.
She said “We also request to colleges and Universities in Delhi that non-practical classes, guest lectures, and administrative meetings are done in online mode. Our education department will personally talk to Universities to ensure this.”
“Delhi government minister or official for the next one year, starting from tomorrow, will not go for any official foreign visit,” the Delhi CM said.
Ms. Gupta said “Some of our programmes of officials and Ministers, we have cancelled. We will also avoid big public events and conferences for the next three months.”
