The work to widen the sixth, seventh and eighth hairpin bends of the Thamarassery Ghat Road is expected to begin soon. The expansion of National Highway 766 targets the most bottleneck-prone sections of the route, which is the main artery connecting Kozhikode to Wayanad district and Karnataka.

Public Works department (National Highways) [PWD (NH)] officials said the design for the project, prepared after conducting soil tests and other studies in areas where trees were felled from the acquired forest land, had received necessary approvals. In the first phase, the sixth hairpin bend will be widened and upgraded. Work on the seventh and eighth hairpin bends will be taken up subsequently. Construction materials required to begin work on the sixth bend are already being transported to the site by the contracting company.
