Workers trained in safe sewer cleaning

A two-day occupational health and safety programme was organised by Regional Centre for Urban and Environmental Studies on Tuesday. During the programme, executive officers and sanitation workers from urban local bodies were trained in safe sewer cleaning practices.

A technical session by Suez India, a firm hired by LMC for sewage cleaning, showcased safety protocols, including mandatory PPE, gas testing, SOP-based manhole entry, work permits and a complete ban on manual scavenging to improve worker safety.
