Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat on Monday said that world leaders listen attentively when Prime Minister Narendra Modi speaks because India’s rising strength is now visible on the global stage. He said the country is “finding its rightful place" and the world is taking notice.
Speaking in Pune at an event marking 100 years of the RSS, Bhagwat said milestones like centenaries should not be the focus; instead, the organisation must ask why its mission of uniting society has taken so long. “Though the Sangh has completed 100 years, braving challenges and weathering many storms, it is time to introspect why the task of uniting the entire society has taken so long," he told the gathering.
He said history shows that when India rises, global conflicts ease and peace prevails. “This is recorded in history, and we must recreate it. This is the need of the hour," Bhagwat said, adding that the current international climate places greater responsibility on India. “And that is why Sangh volunteers have been working since day one with the resolve to complete this mission."
Bhagwat invoked RSS founder Dr. Keshav Baliram Hedgewar, recalling how early volunteers began their work amid uncertainty and adversity. “They sowed the seeds of success and paved the path for transformation by dedicating their lives. Our gratitude must remain with them," he said.
Citing India’s growing stature, Bhagwat said, “Why Prime Minister (Modi) is being heard globally with rapt attention? He is being heard because India’s strength is now beginning to manifest at places where it rightfully should."
Narrating an anecdote, the RSS chief said he was once told that the Sangh “arrived 30 years late." Bhagwat replied, “We did not arrive late. Instead, you started listening to us late."
He emphasised that when the Sangh speaks about dialogue, collective work and unity, it is referring to the entire society. “Our foundation lies in unity through diversity. We must walk together, and for that, Dharma is essential," he said, adding that all Indian philosophies emerge from a single source and must move forward in harmony.
