World’s most affordable coders? Bengaluru techies earn just $12,000 a year; here's what other global cities offer

BENGALURU: Bengaluru, India's tech capital, is home to the world’s most cost-effective software engineering talent, with average annual salaries hovering at just $12,000—merely a fraction of global and industry benchmarks.

A recent report by WeAreCity, published by UnboxingBLR, reveals that a software engineer in Bengaluru earns one-tenth of their counterpart in Silicon Valley, where average salaries reach an eye-watering $125,000 per year.

Even when compared to the global average of $46,000, Bengaluru's figures highlight a stark wage gap. Cities like Tel Aviv ($77,000), Toronto ($75,000), and Sydney ($78,000) significantly outpace Indian pay scales, despite Bengaluru being a major hub for tech outsourcing and innovation.Salaries in major Asian cities also remain far ahead: Tokyo ($62,000), Seoul ($51,000), and even neighboring Singapore ($47,000) offer four to five times more than Bengaluru.
