WWE's El Grande Americano made a surprise masked appearance at the FIFA World Cup clash between Mexico and England on July 6, 2026, played at the iconic Estadio Azteca in Mexico City, Mexico.

His unexpected presence at the stadium, cheering for Mexico, drew huge attention from both wrestling and football fans after he was spotted in the front row of the iconic stadium. His video went viral after WWE Español shared it of him attending the round of 16 match alongside AAA personality Andrea Bazarte.

Ludwig Kaiser's El Grande Americano shows up at Mexico's World Cup round of 16 clash

WWE's masked superstar El Grande Americano made a surprise appearance at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, showing up for Mexico's round of 16 showdown against England at the iconic stadium of Estadio Estetica, drawing huge attention from both wrestling and football fans. The crowd was heard chanting, “Y, si, si”, the catchphrase that became popular during Mexico’s 2026 World Cup run. It roughly translates to “what if we do?” and seems to be catching on as a broader national slogan. The Luchador was caught on in Mexico and around the wrestling world, despite the character’s roots.

The character, currently portrayed by Ludwig Kaiser, after Chad Gable, was seen sitting alongside AAA personality Andrea Bazarte during the highly anticipated knockout match.

This was caught by the cameras in the crowd, and WWE's banner later shared the footage on the appearance on social media before WWE posted an image of the masked star as he appeared during the match.Taking to X/Twitter, WWE Español added, “The moment has arrived for Mexico, what if so? While WWE added, “El Grande Americano stayed showing up on our screens and showing out for Mexico in an all-time game #MEXENG #WorldCup.”

At the stands, the WWE personality was seen enjoying the match and cheering for Mexico.

Actually, the character El Grande Americano is supposed to be Mexican, but the person behind it is a German wrestler, Ludwig Kaiser. Despite portraying a Mexican character, Kaiser had not attended any of Mexico's earlier World Cup matches, nor had he been seen supporting Germany, his real-life home country, which was surprisingly eliminated by Paraguay in the Round of 32.

His appearance at the Mexico match seemed somewhat unusual and added to the comedic contradiction surrounding the character.Unfortunately for Mexico, they could not qualify for the upcoming round of 16 match. Despite goals from Raul Jimenez and Julian Quinones, England stole the show as the team scored 3-2 on the back of goals from star players Jude Bellingham and Harry Kane. The loss was an unfortunate event for Mexico and its fans, as it was the first time the country had lost a World Cup game at Estadio Azteca, as well as only the third time they had lost a game on their home ground.
