WWE Friday Night SmackDown presented its July 10 episode from the Paycom Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The show began with the arrival of the new Undisputed WWE Champion CM Punk, whose first challenger has been made official.
Apart from that, a former champion made his return to the company, and the night concluded with Gunther attacking the SmackDown GM Nick Aldis following weeks of tensions.
What happened in the opening segment of WWE SmackDown in Oklahoma?
CM Punk opened the show, making his first-ever appearance on SmackDown as the new Undisputed WWE Champion. Cody Rhodes came out to congratulate him, but said that he was still owed a title shot. Punk asked when, and Rhodes said he wanted the match at SummerSlam, being made official later.
Finn Balor vs. Tama Tonga
This was the opening match of the night. Finn Balor showed an amazing performance against Tama Tonga. Despite interference from Talla Tonga, Balor took them both out and finished Tama with a Coup De Grace for the win.
Jimmy Uso vs. Royce Keys
Both men clashed in a captivating singles match. It was a back-and-forth encounter that saw Solo Sikoa and Jacob Fatu interfere. However, Jimmy Uso found an opening to hit the spear and pin Royce Keys for the win.
After the match, Fatu had Sikoa trapped in a chair lying on the bottom turnbuckle. He was about to hit the running splash, but stopped and asked him to meet the family on RAW next week.
Alexa Bliss vs. Jade Cargill
This was a singles match from the women’s division. It was an exciting showdown that did not end well. Jade Cargill hit Alexa Bliss with the Bicycle Kick and the Jaded to win the match. She and her allies, Michin and B-Fab, delivered a post-match attack on Bliss, only for Charlotte Flair to make the save.
However, Flair was beaten down and was held by Michin and B-Fab to match Cargill use a chair to snap Bliss’ arm.
Carmelo Hayes vs. Trick Williams
This was a non-title match. Former friends-turned -rivals Carmelo Hayes and Trick Williams produced an excellent match. However, the shocking part was the return of Baron Corbin, who took out both men and made a statement on his first night back in WWE.
What happened in the final segment of SmackDown?
Gunther and Nick Aldis had a heated confrontation. This led Aldis to make a tag team between Gunther & Sami Zayn against CM Punk and Cody Rhodes for Saturday Night’s Main Event.
