WWE SmackDown Results: John Cena's final WWE SmackDown in Chicago saw Brock Lesnar crash his farewell match against Sami Zayn.

(WWE Media)
Chicago played host to one of the most exciting episodes of the WWE SmackDown on Friday, September 5.
It was a legendary showdown where John Cena made his final Friday Night SmackDown appearance, before The Beast Incarnate made a shocking return to the scene. Brock Lesnar’s surprise entry ruined Cena’s farewell SmackDown encounter against Sami Zayn.
Here is how this week’s episode of the WWE SmackDown panned out.
John Cena Faces Off Sami Zayn; Brock Lesnar Appears
Passionate fans of the great Cena roared loudly as the legend’s music started and he appeared to kickstart what was the 48-year-old’s final appearance in the Blue Brand division. Cena interacted with the crowd before taking a trip down memory lane to recall how his journey with the WWE began 23 years ago. Nearing the end of his career now, the stalwart expressed gratitude to his fans for cheering him on throughout his illustrious career.
Soon, Cena entered an exciting duel for the beginning of the United States Championship Open Challenge against Sami Zayn. In a captivating face-off, the two wrestlers give each other a hard time. Cena hit an Attitude Adjustment on Zayn, who recovered and went for a corner exploder that Cena blocked. Cena then came up with a pop-up powerbomb, but Zayn managed to keep up. In the dying stages, Cena unleashed an Avalanche Attitude Adjustment and lay down with Zayn.
Before Cena could recover, however, The Beast Incarnate showed up after more than a year out from the scene. Storming to the ringside amid a shocked audience, Brock Lesnar yanked the referee. He first hit Zayn with an F-5 and threw him out of the ring. Lesnar then went for another F-5 against Cena and left. With Cena laid out, Zayn managed to retain the United States Championship.
Lesnar continued his escalated feud with Cena that started at the SummerSlam on August 3 when he blindsided the wrestler after his defeat at the hands of Cody Rhodes. Cena and Lesnar are now set for what is being anticipated as a blockbuster clash at Wrestlepalooza on September 20.
Aleister Black Beats Damian Priest
While much of the spotlight was reserved for Cena’s emotional SmackDown farewell and Lesnar’s appearance, Aleister Black’s match against Damian Priest was another intense showdown that entertained the packed crowd. The two wrestlers unleashed heavy moves against each other and refused to concede their ground till the very end. In the end, however, Black managed to thwart a reverse STO and Razor’s Edge from Priest and came up with a perfect Black Mass to secure his win.
Giulia Overcomes Michin
Giulia took on Michin with the WWE Women’s United States Championship title on the line. Both the wrestlers recognised the occasion and put in an aggressive show, where Giulia went for a Hammerlock Northern Lights Bomb before Michin responded with a Light Bomb. Michin even countered an interference from Kiana James. But the distraction was enough to allow Giulia to charge at her with an Arrivederci and retain her title eventually.
