New Delhi: Xiaomi is now officially entering the network-attached storage (NAS) market, and it looks like the company wants to make it much more accessible for regular users. The crowdfunding campaign has already been scheduled to run from July 2 to July 8 for Xiaomi’s first dedicated NAS device, which is called Xiaomi Smart Storage. Xiaomi has positioned itself as an affordable, easy-to-use option for families, small offices, and anyone who wants more control over photos, video, and backups without relying entirely on the cloud.

It is a clean, minimalist cube design with a grey finish. It is a dual-bay model that supports both 2.5-inch and 3.5-inch SATA drives, offering users more flexibility to mix and match the storage. It is powered by the Realtek RTD1619B quad-core ARM Cortex-A55 processor, a similar chip that is used in some entry-level Synology models. Sample sports with 2GB of DDR3L RAM and 8GB of storage for the operating system. It is reported to handle up to 40 TB of total storage.

Whereas the prototype has a Gigabit Ethernet port, the final version is expected to include at least one 2.5GbE port, USB 3.0, and HDMI. Now let’s discuss the pricing:

  • Beginner (4TB): CNY 2,299 (roughly Rs 31,947)
  • Advanced (8TB): CNY 2,899 (roughly Rs 40,264)
  • Professional (16TB): CNY 4,699 (roughly Rs 65,217)

This device is expected to tie nicely into Xiaomi’s broader smart home ecosystem with good cross-platform support for Android, iOS, Windows, macOS and Linux.
