Yaba tablets worth Rs 2 crore seized in Hailakandi, 1 held

Silchar: Continuing its crackdown on drug trafficking, Hailakandi police seized Yaba tablets worth around Rs 2 crore and arrested an alleged drug peddler during a special operation in Assam’s Hailakandi district on Sunday evening.Acting on a tip-off, a team led by Ramnathpur police station officer-in charge Dharmendra Das intercepted a car and recovered a large consignment of Yaba tablets concealed inside the vehicle.The arrested accused was identified as Mohammad Yahiya.Preliminary investigation revealed that the contraband was being transported from Aizawl in Mizoram to Patharkandi in Assam’s Sribhumi district for distribution, police said.Investigators suspect the seizure is linked to a larger interstate drug trafficking network. Police said Yahiya is being interrogated to identify other members of the syndicate and trace the supply chain.A case wasregistered under the relevant provisions of the NDPS Act, and further investigation is in progress, police added.
