Mother’s last act of courage saves children; throws her 2 kids out of burning bus, now missing

AGRA: When the multi-vehicle collision on the Yamuna Expressway in Mathura turned the crash site into a blazing trap, 42-year-old Parvati Devi found herself inside one of the burning buses with only seconds to act.

As flames closed in on her, she broke a window and pushed her two children out, securing their escape. But she could not follow. "Shards of broken glass got lodged in her neck," her eldest son, Akash Kumar, said. That was the last time Prachi (8) and Shani (12) saw their mother before the bus was consumed by the inferno. Officials suspect Parvati may have succumbed to her injuries though her body is yet to be traced. At least 13 people were charred to death and over 90 injured after as many as 19 vehicles piled into each other in the early hours of Tuesday due to poor visibility caused by dense fog.

The accident occurred around 3.40am near milestone 127 in Baldeo triggering fires in at least 10 vehicles. Authorities are struggling to identify the dead as the bodies have been burned beyond recognition. SP (rural) Suresh Chand Rawat said a DNA analysis would be done to ascertain if Parvati was among the victims. She was travelling from her hometown in Uttar Pradesh's Hamirpur district to Noida to meet her husband, Govind, along with her two children.

After news of the crash reached them, her family—including her son, husband and brother-in-law—rushed to Mathura, only to begin an agonising search that has yielded no answers so far.Her brother-in-law, Gulzari, said the family looked for her at the district hospital and another hospital in Vrindavan, but found no trace. "We have been moving from place to place, even reaching the postmortem house, hoping to find her. This accident has destroyed everything for us," he said, breaking down in grief.Police and administrative officials have assured the family that efforts are underway to locate the body. Rawat said, "We are working hard to identify their mother."
