Yash’s 'Toxic' makers on overlap with Varun Dhawan’s 'Hai Jawani To Ishq Hona Hai'; ‘Both teams were aware’

Yash's highly anticipated film, 'Toxic: A Fairy Tale For Grown-Ups', has been rescheduled for release on June 4, 2026. This date now overlaps with Varun Dhawan's upcoming project, 'Hai Jawani To Ishq Hona Hai'. The adjustment comes amid ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, impacting global cinematic releases.

The makers of 'Toxic: A Fairy Tale For Grown-Ups' have announced a sudden change in the film’s release date. The project was originally scheduled to arrive in theatres on March 19.

However, the team has now decided to postpone the release. The new release date for the Yash starrer is June 4, 2026 and this has set a clash with Varun Dhawan’s upcoming romantic comedy 'Hai Jawani To Ishq Hona Hai'. The David Dhawan directorial had already locked June 4 as its theatrical release date earlier.

Why 'Toxic' was postponed?

The production team of 'Toxic' clarified that the postponement was not related to production delays. Instead the decision was influenced by the current geopolitical situation in the Middle East.

According to the makers, the crisis in the region created uncertainty regarding the film’s international release plans. Since the project is aimed at global audiences, the team felt it was necessary to delay the release. The makers explained that prevailing conditions in the region were not favourable for a major theatrical launch there. As a result, they decided to push the release to a later date to ensure wider reach.

With the new schedule, the film will now aim for a June theatrical debut worldwide.

Clash with Varun Dhawan film

Following the announcement, discussions also emerged about the box office clash between 'Toxic' and 'Hai Jawani To Ishq Hona Hai'.As reported by Money Control, a spokesperson from KVN Productions addressed the situation and clarified that the matter was handled with complete transparency. The source said, “When the owner of KVN, Mr Venkat, realised the dates were overlapping, he personally reached out to the makers of Varun’s film, Mr Ramesh Taurani, to avoid any unnecessary friction.

Anil Thadani facilitated the conversation, as Toxic makers were clear that they didn’t want the other project to face the kind of uncertainty his film had earlier encountered.

The discussion happened well before the official announcement of the new release date, so both teams were completely aware that a clash was on the horizon. It was all handled transparently and cordially.”

Report suggests different version of events

However, a report by Bollywood Hungama suggested that the situation may have unfolded differently.

According to a source quoted in the report, “If a film has already locked a release slot and another filmmaker plans to come on the same day, it’s customary to inform the makers who had taken the date first. In this case, that didn’t happen. Varun Dhawan, director David Dhawan and producer Ramesh Taurani learned that Toxic: A Fairy Tale For Grown-Ups was arriving in the same week as their film only after actor Yash posted the news on social media.

Yash explains reason for delay

Meanwhile, Yash also shared an official statement explaining the reason behind the postponement. His statement read, "Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-ups is a film we conceptualized with the vision to create cinema for a global audience. Filmed in Kannada and English, it is built with the conviction to connect with viewers both at home and across the world. After years of dedicated labour, we were excited to share our film with you all on the 19th of March.

However, the current uncertainty, especially in the Middle East, has created a situation that impacts our goal to reach and connect with the widest possible audience. Therefore, in the interest of our partners and our audience, we have made the difficult but carefully considered decision to reschedule our release. We thank you for your understanding and patience and look forward to your continued love and support.”
