India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal took a well-earned break from cricket to experience the FIFA World Cup 2026, attending France’s Round of 32 clash against Sweden at the New York-New Jersey Stadium.

Fresh from a prolific outing in India colours, the 24-year-old was spotted soaking in the electric atmosphere from the stands as one of football’s biggest spectacles unfolded before him.

Jaiswal later shared glimpses of his visit on social media, posting a short video captioned simply: “Bucket list."

The left-handed batter embraced the occasion in style, sporting Lionel Messi’s iconic Argentina No. 10 jersey while joining thousands of supporters in the carnival-like atmosphere around the stadium. He was also seen singing along to Shakira’s official FIFA World Cup anthem, Dai Dai, before taking in the pre-match entertainment and the vibrant fan celebrations.

When Did Yashasvi Jaiswal Last Play For India?

Jaiswal was last seen in action during India’s one-off Test against Afghanistan in June, where he continued his impressive run in red-ball cricket. He also made the most of an opportunity in the ODI series, scoring a blistering 110 off just 86 balls after being drafted into the squad as Virat Kohli’s injury replacement.

However, with Kohli returning to full fitness, Jaiswal has not been included in India’s ODI squad for the ongoing England series.

Despite the omission, the youngster remains a crucial part of India’s long-term plans in Test cricket, where he has firmly established himself as one of the country’s premier opening batters.

What’s Next For Jaiswal?

Following his brief football detour, Jaiswal’s attention will shift back to international cricket as India prepare for a packed schedule featuring series against Zimbabwe, West Indies, Sri Lanka, New Zealand and Australia.

While his place in the Test side appears secure, breaking into India’s limited-overs setup remains a tougher challenge. Competition at the top of the order remains intense, with Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli all vying for opening spots in ODIs.

In T20Is, Jaiswal also faces stiff competition from the likes of Sanju Samson, Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, making every opportunity in India’s white-ball teams even more valuable.
