The cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal off the coasts of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha is likely to trigger some heavy rains in southern Kerala on Tuesday. Six districts were put on yellow alert on Tuesday by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Idukki, Palakkad, and Malappuram districts are likely to witness rains in the range of 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm in the next 24 hours.

The upper air cyclonic circulation over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal off the south Odisha and north Andhra Pradesh coasts between 1.5 and 5.8 km above mean sea level is tilting southwards with persisting height. Under the influence of the system, high-range districts in southern and central Kerala will witness isolated heavy rains for the next two days.

A yellow alert has also been issued for Pathanamthitta, Idukki, Palakkad, and Malappuram on Wednesday.
