tnnVaranasi: The ‘Gangotri to Ganga Sagar’ campaign will pass through Varanasi and Prayagraj, two major cities of UP, before culminating in Ganga Sagar.Launched in Gangotri on June 13, it is expected to reach Varanasi on June 17, and culminate in Ganga Sagar on June 20.A Central govt initiative, it will witness Varanasi holding a grand Yoga event at Ravidas Ghat on the banks of the GangaThis year, the theme of International Yoga Day is ‘Yoga for healthy ageing’. Regional ayurveda and unani officer Arvind Kumar said that the ayush department of the state is also organising yoga sessions at different ghats from June 15 to June 21 along the series of Kashi's famous crescent-shaped ghats. In Varanasi, the coordinator of this programme is the Vedic Darshan department, Sanskrit Vidya Dharm Vigyan faculty of Banaras Hindu University. Convener Prof Shashikant Dwivedi said that the programme will be organised under this campaign in eight cities of the country.
He said that a large number of people live along the banks of the Ganga, and along with people's faith, their livelihood is also connected to the Ganga, which is why the programme has been linked with the continuous and clean stream of the Ganga. In addition, public participation campaigns and other activities are being organized to promote cleanliness and environmental conservation along the banks of the Ganga. He said that ahead of International Yoga Day to be held on June 21 under the public awareness campaign this event is being organized at Ravidas Ghat in Varanasi from 7 am to 8 am under the ‘Gangotri to Ganga Sagar’ programme.
In these programmes, organised by the ministry of ayush through the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga, Padma awardees, public representatives, intellectuals, educationists, students, institutions and Yoga organizations are being invited. Along with this, an appeal is being made to the general public to join this programme.
