A 25-year-old Chartered Accountant named Dheeraj Kansal reportedly committed suicide by inhaling helium gas at a guest house in Delhi, leaving behind notes on paper and social media.
Kansal posted his suicide note on Facebook and also left a written note, anticipating the possibility of his social media post being deleted.
This incident marks the first case in Delhi where a suicide attempt involved helium gas inhalation.
Kansal was staying at an Airbnb near Bengali Market in Gol Market. The incident was discovered on Monday when he did not check out as scheduled.
The owner noticed a foul smell near the room and alerted the authorities. Upon breaking down the door, the police found Kansal deceased on the bed, with a pipe connecting a helium cylinder to his mouth and his face and neck covered with a transparent plastic sheet.
Kansal had checked in on July 20 and was supposed to check out on July 28.
In his Facebook post, Kansal stated, “No one should be blamed for my death. This was my choice alone. Everyone I met in my life was kind to me, so I request the police and government not to disturb anyone because of this."
He also wished for his money to be donated to an orphanage or old-age home and his organs to be donated.
“I want to thank all of you. I am not going to mention any names because I don’t want any of you to get in trouble," Kansal wrote in his note.
It is believed that Kansal ordered the helium cylinder from an e-commerce website in Ghaziabad. Kansal lost his father in 2002, and his mother remarried. He was raised by his grandparents.
Authorities are also investigating his mobile phone and social media activities.
