A young couple was found dead, hanging from a ceiling fan in their wedding attire, at their home on Wednesday night in Madhya Pradesh’s Sagar district. Medical examination revealed that the woman, Kajal, was around one-and-a-half months pregnant. Their family discovered the bodies and alerted the police.

The deceased have been identified as 22-year-old Rajendra, also known as Golu, and his 21-year-old wife, Kajal Patel. Kajal was clad in a bridal sari, while Rajendra wore a groom’s suit, adding a particularly tragic and disturbing element to the scene.

According to family members, the couple, who had solemnised a love marriage around three years ago and were reportedly living a seemingly normal and happy life, had shared dinner with the family as usual on the night of the incident.

After retiring to their room, Rajendra and Kajal did not emerge for an unusually long time, prompting Rajendra’s father to go and check on them. On opening the door, he found both hanging from the ceiling.

The police were immediately notified and arrived at the scene, where they recovered the bodies, conducted a thorough spot inspection, and prepared a panchnama.

Following the investigation at the site, the deceased were taken to the Community Health Centre in Rahli for post-mortem examination.

During the medical examination, doctors reported that Kajal was around one-and-a-half months pregnant.

Duty doctor Dr Prashant Hajari said preliminary findings indicate death due to hanging, however, the exact cause to be confirmed only after the post-mortem report is finalised.

Police officials have confirmed that no suicide note was recovered from the scene.

Madhya Pradesh’s Rehli police station in-charge Sunil Sharma revealed that the case is being investigated as a suspected suicide, with statements from both families and close acquaintances scheduled to be recorded after the last rites.

Meanwhile, Additional SP Sagar, Lokesh Sinha, confirmed that no external injuries were found on the bodies and that no suicide note was recovered from the scene.

“All angles are being examined. The investigation is underway to determine what circumstances compelled such a young couple to take this extreme step,” he said.

According to the family, the couple appeared to have a happy and harmonious relationship, with no known disputes or tensions.
